Zonker Films is seeking films for the 2005 Portland International Short Short Film Festival. The 4th Annual PISS Fest! will showcase films from around the world that clock in at 10 minutes or less.  The fest will be held September 23-24, 2005 at the historic Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon.  Submission deadline is July 15, 2005, late entry July 31, 2005.  Entry form and more details can be found at http://zonkerfilms.com

International Festival of Documentary Film CRONOGRAF. May 19 - May 22, 2005. The International festival of Documentary Film  "CRONOGRAF" is the only international film festival in the Republic of Moldova. The main purpose of "CRONOGRAF" Festival is to promote the art of cinematography along with the values of documentary discourse, by presenting the most significant documentary films of the moment. This festival is meant to host the films that mirror originality and freedom of expression, as well as the non-traditional forms of cinema language or new aesthetics of world cultures. Cinema Sensibilities on Disability
Festival Date: April 21 and 22, 2005

About the Festival: On April 21 and 22, 2005 the Disability Studies Committee at the University of Oregon (UO) in cooperation with the UO Cultural Forum, and the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA) will inaugurate a film and video festival devoted to the experience of disability. The festival will be held in conjunction with "Art-cess-able," a three day event focusing on disability culture and access to the arts to people with disabilities.
    The purpose "Cinema Sensibilities on Disability" will be to increase awareness of disability, reinforce accurate portrayals, and to subvert stereotypes. Organizers of the festival invite submissions of films and videos that address the experience of developmental, auditory, learning, visual, physical, and mental disabilities. Of particular interest are international perspectives on the experience of disability.

Program:

  • All genres are accepted.
  • There is no restriction as to when the film or video was made.
  • Submissions not in English should be sub-titled.
  • Each film must be submitted separately and must include the following:
    VHS or DVD labeled with the title, director's name, running time, and contact number. We cannot accept film prints or any other screening format for the festival. Submission must include, entry fee, completed and signed submission form, and stamped / self addressed postcard for entry acknowledgement.
  • Entries and materials will not be returned. Please mail the above materials to:

  • Deadlines and Fees Film submission deadline for all genres: March 1, 2005
  • $15 entry fee.Make checks or money orders payable in US dollars to the University of Oregon.

Selection: The festival programming committee will select and invite films and videos at their discretion. Everyone who submits a film or video will be contacted via email or regular mail by April 15, 2005.

Does free speech matter? Film Contest. Film your response, and win up to $1,000 and a free trip to New York City!
     The National Coalition Against Censorship is sponsoring its second annual film contest. This year's topic is "Does Free Speech Matter?"
     Contestants must be American residents, age 19 or younger, on the day the film is submitted. Entries can be videos of any kind, including documentary, animation, experimental, and music, on DVD or VHS format, no longer than 4 minutes, including credits.
     Films will be judged on content, artistic and technical merit, and creativity. Judges will be drawn from a panel of renowned writers, actors, and filmmakers, similar to last year's judges, who included author Judy Blume and playwright Tony Kushner. The top three winners will receive stipends of $1,000, $500, and $250 and be flown to New York City for a gala event in October.

This festival showcases emerging visions of young people and celebrates artistic excellence, technical achievement, and originality through the presentation of creative and compelling shorts. Film submission to the Festival is open to youth ages 13-18 and is free.

Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in association with Ernst & Young LLP, has established a scholarship in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator and long-time host of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." The scholarship is intended to support and encourage an aspiring upper division or graduate student to pursue a career in children's media that furthers the values and principles of Fred Rogers' work.

Buenos Aires, Argentina 8 - 12 Apr 2005 - Talent Campus Buenos Aires.

Universidad del Cine announces the first edition of Buenos Aires Talent Campus which will be held in cooperation with the Berlin International Film Festival - Berlinale Talent Campus and the Buenos Aires Independent International Film Festival (BAFICI) on April 8 to 12, 2005.

During four days, workshops and lectures will be held by regional as well as international professionals, academics and intellectuals. They will provide the young filmmakers with both a theoretical and practical approach in order to enhance their cinematographic education.

Directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and producers from Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Venezuela will be able to apply. Once selected, they will be invited to Buenos Aires with travel costs and accommodation covered. After the Buenos Aires Talent Campus has come to an end, all talents will have the chance to attend the Buenos Aires Independent International Film Festival to complete their experience.
