Plymouth Independent Film Festival (PiFF '05)
July 21-24
Plymouth, Mass.
The Plymouth Independent Film Festival (PiFF '05) continues to invite local, national and international filmmakers to submit
their films for possible screening during July, 2005.
Between July 21st and July 24th this summer twenty feature films, documentary and fiction as well as short films and animation will be chosen for screenings at various locations in historic downtown Plymouth. All genres will be considered including cultural diversity and the environment.
The Festival accepts works in progress. Foreign language films without subtitles will be eligible to be screened as works in progress.
Opportunities to network with other filmmakers and to study the filmmaking process, will be available during the four day festival through discussion groups, panels followed by Q&A sessions and workshops.
Gary King, who has an extensive background in creating special effects for movies such as A Civil Action, Logan's Run, The Towering Inferno, Aliens - The Resurrection and Patriot Games and television shows such as M*A*S*H, Charlie's Angels, Tracey Takes On as well as music videos for Janet Jackson and Duran Duran, will offer a workshop on Special Effects.
Nora Hassan is an actress and graduate of Emerson College. Nora's latest movie is a re-make of The Longest Yard, due out in theatres this May. She will offer the workshop on Acting In Front of The Camera.
James Koonce graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in television and film, then relocated to Los Angeles where he began his career with Diane English's company as her assistant helping to develop television comedies. He developed and wrote a half-hour comedy pilot for Fox Family Channel and was a staff writer on the Fox comedy, Living in Captivity. James will offer two workshops, The Art of the Pitch and Writing for Film.

2005 Video Discovery Awards. Student video journalists in U.S. high schools and junior and senior colleges can win hands-on, real-world experience covering one of the nation’s most important ed-tech conferences—the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in Philadelphia, June 27-30, 2005. Zonker Films is seeking films for the 2005 Portland International Short Short Film Festival. The 4th Annual PISS Fest! will showcase films from around the world that clock in at 10 minutes or less. The fest will be held September 23-24, 2005 at the historic Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Submission deadline is July 15, 2005, late entry July 31, 2005. International Festival of Documentary Film CRONOGRAF. May 19 - May 22, 2005. The International festival of Documentary Film "CRONOGRAF" is the only international film festival in the Republic of Moldova. The main purpose of "CRONOGRAF" Festival is to promote the art of cinematography along with the values of documentary discourse, by presenting the most significant documentary films of the moment. This festival is meant to host the films that mirror originality and freedom of expression, as well as the non-traditional forms of cinema language or new aesthetics of world cultures. Does free speech matter? Film Contest. Film your response, and win up to $1,000 and a free trip to New York City!
The National Coalition Against Censorship is sponsoring its second annual film contest. This year's topic is "Does Free Speech Matter?"
Contestants must be American residents, age 19 or younger, on the day the film is submitted. Entries can be videos of any kind, including documentary, animation, experimental, and music, on DVD or VHS format, no longer than 4 minutes, including credits.
Films will be judged on content, artistic and technical merit, and creativity. Judges will be drawn from a panel of renowned writers, actors, and filmmakers, similar to last year's judges, who included author Judy Blume and playwright Tony Kushner. The top three winners will receive stipends of $1,000, $500, and $250 and be flown to New York City for a gala event in October.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in association with Ernst & Young LLP, has established a scholarship in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator and long-time host of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." The scholarship is intended to support and encourage an aspiring upper division or graduate student to pursue a career in children's media that furthers the values and principles of Fred Rogers' work.
