Apple 1984. This classic commercial is a great piece to study to see how the effective organization of shots can tell a nonverbal story. Camera movement, framing and composition, lighting, atmospherics, and set design, all play a key role in communicating this Orwellian tale of the future. Source: Penn State University.
Corporate Anthems. Just like countries, corporations have anthems. Some of these songs, once the private embarrassment of the board room, have emerged as a cult musical genre with hundreds of thousands of devoted fans. Some are very fine compositions and others - well, you judge for yourself. Source: Zednet.com
Simple Machines. At this website, EdHeads, a nonprofit, offers five interactive, flash animated modules to educate second-through sixth-graders about simple machines. The website is equipped with simple animations to help children understand how the machines work. Source: Ed Heads.
30 Second Bunnies Theater. This Angry Alien Productions site provides short animated satires of films such as It's A Wonderful Life, Jaws, The Exorcist, and others using a cast of off-beat bunnies. OneLook Reverse Dictionary. There are certainly times for everyone where they cannot seem to remember a certain phrase or word, and it may become rather vexing and frustrating. Fortunately, there is now the OneLook Reverse Dictionary website which can help persons confounded by this situation. Essentially, users can type in a concept into a search engine and receive a list of words and phrases related to that concept. For example, typing in "joy from the pain of others" returns over one hundred results, including "schadenfreude" and "regret". There are several other uses to the site, including the ability to explore related concepts or to answer basic identification questions. Perhaps the most important function of the Reverse Dictionary is that users (if they are so inclined) may also use the database to solve crossword puzzle clues. Source: Scout Report.
Woodland Park Zoo: Multimedia. The Woodland Park Zoo, located in Seattle, has created this multimedia area where you can view animals in these habitats, and learn more about them interactively. The interactive features area is a good place to start, as visitors can watch a video of a komodo dragon baby hatching, view an interactive map to learn about the decline of the Sumatran tiger, and explore the world of the jaguar. The video archive offers some short video clips of animals "in action", including a kea bird, some Ossabaw pigs, and a snow leopard. The "Miscellaneous Goodies" area is a real treat as visitors can view the "Bear Cam" (which features, yes, that's right: live bears), send a friend an electronic postcard of an endangered animal, and experience the life cycle of a butterfly. Jelly Web. A production company that is interested in exciting and innovative projects specifically in the field of entertainment. This site was recommended by a reader as one that makes unusual uses of animation as part of the interface design. Astral Projection, an example of their work, was also recommended. Jib Jab. Since 2004 brothers Gregg and Evan Spiridellis have been riding the wave of popularity. It all began when Gregg’s lyrics and Evan’s art helped spark an international sensation with the release of JibJab’s election parody, ‘This Land’. The two minute short and it’s follow up, ‘Good To Be in DC!’ were seen over eighty million times online and on every continent, including Antarctica. There animated humor continues long after the election is over. Check out the site for some good laughs.
