This section is devoted to information of specific interest to those working in the fields of TV, Film, and Multimedia. It includes news, tips, publication links, announcements, and other resources that have recently come across the editor's desktop. Student Films on the The Independent Film Channel. The IFC recently asked a group of students from New York City's School of Visual Arts to create network identity spots. The Topic: " Passion for Independence." Each student, under the creative direction of instructor Jeffrey Metzner, shot and edited a digital video as a one-person production unit. The best of the lot can be seen on line at the IFC Web Site. Call for Entries The third annual Explorers Club Documentary Film Festival will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2005. The Film Festival represents a continuation and extension of the Club’s longstanding mission, as we seek to honor filmmakers who share our vision for, and commitment to, a healthier planet in the twenty-first century. The festival will be a daylong celebration of the best in films on the subjects of Scientific Exploration, Field Research, and Wildlife & Conservation. The competition is open to members of The Explorers Club as well as the general public, and we invite filmmakers to submit their works for consideration. We showcase over 80 American and Foreign independent films and are currently accepting submissions for features, featurettes, shorts and documentaries of all genres. During our fest your filmmakers will have an opportunity to experience our tropical locale, nightlife, seminars, and get together with other filmmakers from around the world. Surrounded by celebrity appearances, countywide events and parties this event captures wide-reaching attention. As PBIFF is competitive, your filmmakers will also have an opportunity to receive awards. All films entered are eligible to be included in the competition for the Audience Favorite in the following categories: Feature, Short and Documentary. A select number of films will be chosen for competition in the following categories: Best Director, Best Performance by an Actor/Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short.
