Eugene Film and Media Festival Announced. The first annual Emerald City Short Film Festival (ECSFF) will take place in early May 2005. The festival will celebrate independent Oregon film, video, and multimedia artists and producers. A festival planning committee is now forming. If you are interested in participating please contact festival coordinator, Hank Weintraub at filmfest@divanow.org. The festival is being sponsored in part by the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA).

DIVA Presents 2nd Friday Film Forum. Individuals living in Oregon's Willamette Valley may want to pencil in a trip to Eugene on the second Friday of each month. The Down Town Initiative for the Visual Arts (DIVA) offers a monthly showing of independent films. September: The Best of Peripheral Produce's Short Films, October: I Exist - an award-winning film about gay and listings of middle eastern descent, November, Youthvisions - local Eugene kids produced short videos, and December, Open Lens -a chance for filmmakers to screen their short films and videos. All programs begin at 8:00 PM. DIVA is located at 110 West Broadway in Eugene. Web site: www.divanow.org.

Open Lens - and evening of independent film and video. DIVA is providing an open evening for film and video artists to show their work on December 10. Individuals who have a short film or video are encouraged to submit their work for viewing on the big screen! Drop off a DVD, or VHS copy of your work at DIVA (110 W. Broadway). Mark the package Open Lens film night. Deadline is Wednesday, December 8. An hour of programs will be compiled from the submissions. Call For Animation. Attention all animators: enter the first Nicktoons Film Festival, co-produced by Frederator Studios ("The Fairly OddParents") and Animation Magazine.

Submit your animated short films in QuickTime format before October 1. Submitted shorts should combine an original style, fantastic character designs and a humorous plot, while remaining under seven minutes long.

A selection of shorts chosen by a pre-selection jury will broadcast
on Nicktoons as part of a 13-episode compilation series launching
October 24. A grand jury will choose one winner to receive a
US$10,000 prize.

Grand jury members already announced include "Ren & Stimpy" creator John Kricfalusi and "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" animation director Eric Goldberg.

Ending Discrimination Against Children Is Theme of Annual Award. Cecodap - a Venezuelan organization that promotes and advocates children's and teenagers' rights - is now accepting entries for its annual Rafael Ángel García Journalism Prize.

The theme for this year's contest is ending discrimination against Children and teenagers. Entries can be editorials, research articles, reports, cultural features or photographs. The deadline is September 30.

Cecodap hopes to show the public how children and teenagers suffer different kinds of discrimination - social, physical, cultural, sexual and political. It also aims to find possible solutions and to
identify the parties responsible in such matters.

The award is named after the famous Venezuelan community
journalist, Rafael Ángel García.

Entries must be sent to Cecodap headquarters at Qta. El Papagayo, Av. Orinoco, Bello Monte Norte, Caracas. Submissions should include the date and name of the media outlet where the work was published, original and copied versions of the piece, and
the candidate's personal information.

Winners will receive a statuette during Cecodap's anniversary
ceremony in December.

Online Volunteering - United Nations. If you have some extra time to devote to volunteer work and devote your production skills to good causes, you might consider online volunteering for the United Nations. Volunteers from all over the world are helping organizations that serve communities in developing countries -- but without leaving their own. Online Volunteers translate documents, write articles, research data, build web sites, mentor young people, design logos, and engage in many other projects to benefit organizations serving people in the developing world. Script Writing Competition. The National Audio Theatre Festivals' 2004-2005 Script Competition deadline is November 15, 2004. Audio theatre is a unique and collaborative medium. Like any good theatre, audio (or radio) theater always begins with a well-written, perceptive, entertaining script. Use of sound and appropriateness to the medium is considered. Length 30 minutes. Microcinema International has been curating, exhibiting, promoting, and distributing the international moving image arts since 1996. The monthly screening program, Independent Exposure, will be celebrating its tenth season in 2005, submit your work(s) now to be considered for a special year-long screening celebration that will tour throughout the International Microcinema Network. Explorers Club Documentary Film Festival
Deadline October 1, 2004

The third annual Explorers Club Documentary Film Festival will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2005. The Film Festival represents a continuation and extension of the Club’s longstanding mission, as we seek to honor filmmakers who share our vision for, and commitment to, a healthier planet in the twenty-first century. The festival will be a daylong celebration of the best in films on the subjects of Scientific Exploration, Field Research, and Wildlife & Conservation.

The competition is open to members of The Explorers Club as well as the general public, and we invite filmmakers to submit their works for consideration. Films completed between January 1, 1997, and September 30, 2004, are eligible for submission.

The Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF)

The Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF) is actively planning our 10th annual event scheduled for April 14 - 21, 2005. With the dates in place, we're now accepting film entries and would like to enlist your help in reaching filmmakers in your area to enter their selection.

We showcase over 80 American and Foreign independent films and are currently accepting submissions for features, featurettes, shorts and documentaries of all genres. During our fest your filmmakers will have an opportunity to experience our tropical locale, nightlife, seminars, and get together with other filmmakers from around the world. Surrounded by celebrity appearances, countywide events and parties this event captures wide-reaching attention.

As PBIFF is competitive, your filmmakers will also have anopportunity to receive awards. All films entered are eligible to be included in the competition for the Audience Favorite in the following categories: Feature, Short and Documentary. A select number of films will be chosen for competition in the following categories: Best Director, Best Performance by an Actor/Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short.
