"One of the lessons of the Web is that if people have access to
information, they will consume it, whether they are hungry or not." (Lee Gomes)

Up Front NW
By Gary Ferrington

Winter storms bring an end to autumn as we move into December darkness here in the Pacific Northwest. It is a time to retreat to that warm cozy place by the computer screen and anticipate the coming new year.
This is the second Newsletter issued on our new monthly schedule. It is also the last issue for 2004. We would like to remind readers that the JobsNW section is now updated weekly and to check back often during the month to see what's new.

Seasons greetings to all our readers.

In This issue:

Feature Article: How To Remember Potential Client Names. We are often so busy thinking about what to say or how we might look when being introduced to a stranger that we give little attention to the other person. Failure to focus is one of the priciniple reasons we can't remember the names of others. The feature this month outlines techniques which may remember the names we need know.

Random Links: Unlike previous collections nothing in this month's list is related except all links were all recommended by readers.

Site Visit: There are many ways to tell stories about communities and individuals, and new developments in multimedia offer some rather compelling ways to do just that is The Center For Digital Storytelling

Lighter Side: The Scribbler may be one of the very few Web-based offerings that actually uses the interactivity of the Internet and the randomness of a design software to allow a user to sketch a drawing and then have The Scribbler enhance it -- that is, seek to draw what your mind's eye may be seeing but your untrained hands cannot put on paper.

On The Desktop: A wide array of articles, tips, and resources related to media design and development.

Letters From Readers.

"I just wanted to tell you I loved the 'Feature: Defining the role of the Web Designer'. It was great, and so true!! I can’t tell you how many times I hear things like this. Once I called my bank to change some account info, and the woman asked what my  title was. "Web Designer". I said.
"Oh I do that too!" she replied. I was thinking... sure... that’s why I was talking to her to get my bank info taken care of?! Or I sometimes hear "A monkey could build a web site." That’s good too. Thanks for giving a REAL description of what a web designer is, I think I’ll print it off and hang it on my bulletin board for everyone to read!" CG
